'PACA LUNCH

Starlight Alpaca Ranch is now accepting reservations for field trips to the Ranch for the 2009 ‘Paca Lunch school and community program.  This is the fifth year of the program in which school and community groups are invited to pack a lunch and come out for an educational tour of our working alpaca ranch.  There is no cost for this program.

During your visit you will sit down in our ranch store for a short lesson about these inquisitive, gentle, gregarious animals and then get hands-on by entering their pens to feed them alpaca chews and feel their fleece.   Most of our visitors are pre-school and lower elementary-aged students and find the alpacas’ docile nature allows for easy interaction.  However, all ages from two to ninety have enjoyed interacting with our herd.  With over 90 alpacas on the ranch you will see many of the 22 natural colors.  After the ‘pacas lunch, you can head over to our picnic pavilion and enjoy the sack lunches you've packed.

To schedule a visit call Marquita at (573) 267-3364 or send an email to alpaca@starlightalpacaranch.com

EVENTS

ShearMadness is the day of our annual shearing of the herd. This may be the singular most unfavorite day in an alpaca's life. Aussie Eddie Dunham, shown in action, travels the States and the Territories Down Under providing this service. This April 17th the fur was a flying as Eddie sheared over 100 alpacas.

SALT RIVER EXPO celebrates the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Mark Twain Lake for recreational activities. Starlight has been invited to participate in this unique educational experience on May 15 and 16th. We will be bringing a group of our alpacas to the Warren G. See South Spillway Recreation Area for the public to get a close up look and feel of these remarkable animals. We look forward to sharing our animals with you.

TWAIN ON MAIN is a new festival in Hannibal to celebrate the legacy of Mark Twain. Starlight has been invited to bring some of our alpacas to Main Street and we encourage you to stop by to see us on May 23rd and 24th.
